AMANA FOUNDATION

(A society registered under India Society Act)

AIM: TO GENERATE A MODERATE FUND TO GIVE EMPLOYMENT TO THE NEEDY SECTION OF THE SOCIETY AND INCULCATE THE VALUE OF ISLAM.

MEMBERS: A membership fees of Rs. 2000.00 will be required from each member.

SUBSCRIPTION: Every member for next 10 years will contribute Rs. 1000/- every month till the total fund of the society raised to 25,00,000/-. The subscription may increase after some years if the board member of the society feels.

The society will have president, secretaries and staffs if necessary to run smoothly. There will be one regular board meeting once in a year unless there is any other compulsory emergency meeting.

ACTIVITIES:

1)      Employment Generation: Funds, though can be raised with the subscription from members, it will remain the only money we subscribed. In order to get some automatic raise in the fund we need to take up some project where we can do funding and earn percentage of profit not the interest. This will not only give jobs to the unemployed youth or our elders but also generate our income in HALAL way. The following are the scheme which we may take up depending on the atmosphere.

a)      Poultry Farming: Every household are now doing poultry farming for their needs but cannot do export to the hotels. We can foresee a big opportunity in this sector. People do not consume much of it due to lack of availability. If one is selling at 1 kg, ½ kg, ¼ kg, whoever need for small quantity can purchase for one day meal. This way he won’t need to spend Rs. 200/- to have a cup of chicken. He can have daily chicken under his affordable expenditure. We need to tie up with big hotels, restaurants in the city, towns to supply the chicken besides selling live chickens to households. This will not only give us a meager income but also give employment to at least 5/6 peoples in the locality. We can invest 25% of the total assets to this project. If we have 20 members at least, we can generate 5,00,000/- at the first 1 year. So, 2 lakhs can be invested in setting up infrastructure for poultry, purchasing poultry chicks and its feeds for 4/5 months. We can harvest twice in a year. So, the calculation may be as follows

i)                    Infrastructure-                  Rs. 1,00,000.00

ii)                   Chicks (500 nos.)              Rs.    20,000.00

iii)                 Feeds                                    Rs.    50,000.00

iv)                 Electric charge                   Rs.      2,000.00

v)                  Salary (2 people)              Rs.    10,000.00

vi)                 Transportation                  Rs.       5,000.00

Total                                      Rs. 1,87,000.00

(One lac eighty seven thousand) our allocation is 2 lacs still 13,000/- left which may be used in Misc items which may arise later.

Selling price:

If we take the current price i.e. Rs. 140 per Kg.

500 nos x 4 kgs x 140/- = Rs. 2,80,000.00. We further need to spend some amount in transportation so there will be less profit in the first harvest as we spent a handsome amount in infrastructure. But in second harvest, we need to invest only 1 lacs only which will earn 2.8 lacs or more. We may also think of epidemics such as bird flu which may cause death of chickens. So another 80,000/- may be deduct from the estimated profit. Still we make a profit of 1 lacs which is not bad. This will go the society’s fund.

Every year there will be two season to sell the grown up poultry and have a chance to generate at least 1.5 to 2 lacs revenue out of 2 lacs investment.

b)      Women employment: The local uneducated mother and sisters are earning money in very unconventional methods such as digging sand from the river belly throught out the day escaping the fard (namaz) and also a very hard work. There may be mother and sisters among the women in the locality who wants to earn money but not feeling good to take up this job as they need to expose whole day in the river. We may set up another working center after completing the first task. They will be provided the weaving machines, threads, embroidery machines or any other equipment which are required for them to run the workshop. We may perhaps seek funding from govt. scheme if permissible to take such help by a society. We will send the sisters to training programs as and when any such programs are conducted in the state. The product of the industry will be traditional phanek, salwar of various designs, dupattas embroidered etc. we need to have a tie up in and out of Manipur to export the products. The employee of the industry will be paid fixed monthly salary of 500/- plus incentives for every finished products based on their performance. To go into an elaborate expenditure of the industry will be premature since I have no idea of the cost of the machineries and consumables etc. if we cannot set up a big house for the purpose, we may allow the workers to do at their home and collect the finished product in a place from where tagging and exporting of items can be done.

c)       Dairy Farm: Dairy farm is seen as very promising sector in rural areas like ours. There is no lack of field even if we need to take them outside the barn. There are variety of cows which gives more milk. We may purchase the JARSEE or other hybrid cow. This will give at least 3 men employment. 1 man will be for milking, 1 for feeding and 1 for exporting the milk to the hotels and household. The expenditure may be as follows:-

i)                    Cost of cow                (3 cows)@ Rs. 40,000/-                  = Rs. 1,20,000.00

ii)                   Salary of the employee 2000/- each                                = Rs.       6,000.00

iii)                 Fodder (it won’t cost much as dry fodder in the form of rice husk and straw are available in plenty. Besides we need to purchase some oil cake such mustard oil cake during the season and store it. Green fodder can get free of cost for three cows throughout the year from here or there. We may spend around 10000/- for fodder (all kinds of fodder) in a year                        = Rs.      10,000.00

Total                                                                              = Rs. 1,36,000.00

(One lac thirty six thousand only)

                                Harvesting:

i)               Milking 15 ltrs/per day per cow @Rs. 30/- per liter 45 ltrs x 30  = Rs. 1,350.00 per day

ii)             Total income on milk  1350 x 30 days   = Rs. 40,500.00

We will impart necessary training to the farmers in the State Animal Husbandry Department for better service. If the product of the milk comes as we plan, we may generate around 2.5 in a year while the expenditure made is around 1.5 lacs in first year and 10-20 thousand in subsequent years. Here too, we will make a profit of Rs. 2 lacs which will go to the society’s fund. In the next one or two year, we may expand the farm to around 10 cows as we will be able to handle more cows from the experience we had.

d)      Farming paddy fields: Another very conventional and easy way of providing employment and generating fund is paddy field farming. We may acquire land on leased from anyone and trusted to someone who wants to farm but does not have land. He will farm the land as if it is his property and will ask in return only 8 bags. As such there will be no expenditure in this project. We may extend help in extreme necessity for which we may reserve Rs. 4000/- for 4 sangam. The annual return would be around Rs. 6000 x 4 = Rs. 24,000.00 while our main investment of 2 lacs remains intact. The straws will be another fodder source for dairy farm.

2)      Profit sharing: The purpose of the society is to develop our locality with the aim to provide them sustainable job so that they can prosper. When the total assets/liquidity of the society reaches to above 25 lacs, we may start distributing some share of the profits. We may distribute 20% of the profits to the members, 30% to the charity (such as scholarships to the under poverty students, masajid, madrassa and financial assistant to the poorest household of the locality) and 50% to the society fund till we can raise fund up to 1 cr.

3)      Charity: In charity we need to conduct scholarship programs for bright students to encourage their studies providing basic money for enrollment of student of under poverty household of the whole year. The priority has to be seen when it comes. We may also assist financial helps to the Masajid renovation, cleanliness of the graveyard etc. The foundation will take active part in awareness programs through modern way about the beauty and importance of Islam and practices we need to adopt in daily life. The foundation will organize workshop cum seminar inviting Islamic scholars and muftis to put perspectives of Islam in an interesting way so that no body feels that they are being preached. Preaching is not something which is easily digested as we all are matured and want to neglect such things. They have the idea that if they listen and agreed to what are being preached, they may be compelled to follow which they do not feel doing.

4)      Fund for Hajj: We will allow 2-3 people to perform Hajj from our fund every year or if possible we all will go together.

5)      Natural Calamity/Sudden loss: We will keep 10% of the total fund to help out the person affected by Natural calamity, emergency aid and death cases depending on the merit of cases.

VISION 2020

VISION 2020

Introduction:
The development of any nation depends on its educational system and it is proved that education is the key to human progress and social change. Education is a powerful tool for empowerment of any individual. It helps in developing confidence in individual and community about their own capacities, inherent strengths to shape their lives and thus enhance the inner strength, intellectual, political, social and economic against oppression, exclusion and discrimination.

Our mission is to serve the poor and deprived sections of Muslim community by providing them the basic amenities like education and economic empowerment and equip individuals to become an equal partner in the progress of the state/nation and by helping the sufferers of deprivation to move towards a community free from hunger, ignorance, deprivation and exploitation. We believe that Islam is the ultimate source of guidance for social development. We aim at reaching the grassroots with distinct preference for the depressed and the disadvantaged sections enabling them to attain all that a common citizen cherishes.

Hands-in-hand we go to serve the deserving. Through various community service projects and with the support of our caring and generous donors, MMOF will be engaging in helping people with little or no resources. With the high spirit and dedication of its members, MMOF strives to alleviate human sufferings and also to help them achieve real improvement in the quality of their lives.

MMOF at first may give priorities in two sectors besides time to time projects:-

1. Educational empowerment

2. Economic empowerment.

Educational Empowerment: Educational empowerment is the need of the hour. The simplest example of its necessity is that we are discussing about the upliftment of our brothers and sisters. Had not we studied, we would not have thought of it. Development is a central imperative part in today’s globalized world. But achieving sustainable all-round development for society requires certain fundamental pillars in place. Education is one such pillars without which any future growth is inconceivable. More so, in today’s information based society, where education is the key to a whole world of opportunities. Not only that, a whole host of issues in fields of healthcare, economic opportunity, women empowerment and community building can be traced to a lack of proper education.

Every child or almost 90% children go to school even in village or town in Manipur today. There is small or big schools in most of the villages in Manipur. But what is lacking is the quality of education. The passed out percentage in the villages is though increasing, still a situation of concern. Instead of counting successful, it is better to count number of failure students and address the issue. Girl student are higher in number than the boy in term of fail. There are many reasons behind this picture. Reason 1) Parents do not give much importance to the girl if there are 2-3 boys in family and if the family is in middle class. 2) The girls’ time are used in some household activities.  3) Dismal school infrastructure 4) Less experience teaching staffs. 6) Unable to get proper coaching due to less income.

Vision 2020 may stress on primary and secondary level to improve education, because primary and secondary level prepares ground for higher education which needs worthy and deserving aspirants.

The Vision 2020 may take up following projects in the field of Education Empowerment:

· Career Guidance Cell in Imphal and Silchar

· Alumni Formation

· Award for academic excellence

 [First 5 yrs Plan]

Career Guidance Cell: As we do not have full time office and working staff, it may be difficult to man one employee in the guidance centre. But we may utilise small room of anyone’s home as office and open the centre for 3 hrs a week. Our members in Manipur will manage for first some years till we are able to establish a fully functional cell. We may expand the functionality of the cell in later years depending upon our scope. We are also making a career guidance booklet under leadership of Umar Khan, Admin. Later on, this cell will also provide important admission form of different colleges/universities at the same rate what is available at the venue. It may also be made as job enquiry centre. Brothers working in the different department and colleges will share the job information besides those in the employment news and made available to young job seekers. This cell can be set up at no cost. This place may also be converted into a Library where books available with us may be kept for study of poor students. The book will be leased to one student for 2/3 days if the same is not in demand or not in exam time. Many other activities may be taken up later as and when any new idea is born.

Alumni Formation: We may back the initiative of any Alumni assn. formation. Alumni will works at its own but the human resource will be mutually used. What alumni should do must not be decided by MMOF and vice versa.

Award for academic excellence: In continuation to our inaugural event, we may give awards to academic excellence students of Class X, XII, BE, MBBS and other specialised subject. Scholarship in itself is a catalyst for those students who are unable to access the available resources. Purpose of educational projects in Vision 2020 is to ignite and propel the students' self potential. The award distribution would be a great step in a marathon. The Award for Academic Excellence is meant to encourage the students to continue performing better in future. It is to motivate the minority students for performing excellently in their academic studies.

2nd 5 year plan.

Economic Empowerment:

a)   Micro finance: Economical development of under privileged and weaker people should be given the top priority to support one’s family. One such option is Micro financing. There are many brothers who want to start some business but could not do so for want to initial investment. Keeping the needs in mind, we can extend hand to these underprivileged sections. Micro Finance is one such option. Since we are in Islam, we can change the modal of common Micro finance scheme. We will finance interest free amount ranging from 1000 to 5000 depending upon the work they are interesting. The capital amount will be recovered/reimbursed to us in very easy instalments without any interest on daily or monthly basis depending upon nature of business. If the business earn on daily basis, we will recover on daily basis otherwise on monthly basis. As such, we can set up many small business houses/firms.

MMOF Logo

The group is now renamed as Manipuri Muslim Online Forum. Because the term Muslim  in the name of a religion followers, which is plural in itself, where all Mazhabs in Islam are brought under a single umbrella. However the term Muslims perhaps will have to go with an indicator like sunni Muslims, shia Mu...slims etc, as it tends to highlight the different mazhabs in Islam. And Muslims' or Muslim's which is with an apostrophe is possessive. The tag line "Think Humanity" gives an expression of an appeal to all human to think humanity.

IMAN GROUP

IMAN Group
(A Sec 25 Company, Non-profitable under the aegis of Manipuri Muslims
Online Forum)
Type of Organization: A Sec 25 Company/NGO/Trust (non-profitable)

A Sec 25 Company or Trust will be formed as per company’s act guide lines.

This will be totally non-profitable company. A section 25 company is a company with limited liability that may be formed for "promoting commerce, art, science, religion, charity or any other useful object," provided that no profits, if any, or other income derived through promoting the company's objects may be distributed in any form to its members. After the company/trust is registered, a website should be launched with the facility to donate money online and to join member by paying the membership fees online.

The company/trust will organize conference once in a year to be attended by all members at anywhere in India under the lead of the members dwelling in that part of the India. We may name it 1st IMAN (if it is the name) Convention. The convention will be done with the convention fees to be paid by the members. Nothing from the fund will be utilized. The members have to subscribe for fooding and lodging fees which will be decided depending on the location we select. The local members will make all arrangement. The accommodation and fooding will be catered to some small event managing companies if necessary.

We will need members form Judiciary as legal advisor in the group to give us the legal view on every steps we take. We need Management students to make complete module of the task to be taken orderly. We need IT students to develop the webpage, launching website and other IT related issue such as database management. Except judiciary, we have members from every field. There may be some Law student in the forum but we need practicing advocate or request some retired judges from Manipur to be the legal advisor of the company. We too need account people or economist to handle the accounts of our transactions.

Opening a current bank account is must to reserve our fund under the name of the company. All contributions of the member and donations should be transferred to the Bank A/C.

Activities:-
1) Madrasa Education
How to implement:

a) We need to talk to administrator the feasibility of introduction of General education to go side by side with Islamic education

b) We have to tie up with some educational institute in the state who can conduct the exam of these madrassa students as private student till it is not compulsory to be under BSEM i.e. Class VII.

c) The duration of Madrassa course needs to be examined first.

d) If the madrassa course takes 5 years, then the students will start general education after two years so that when they finish the madrassa course, they can get direct admission to the school from Class–VIII (which perhaps comes under BSEM). They will study for 2 years and get cleared the HSLC exam.
e) If they want to continue higher education in Alimiat line (Madrassa course), they can get direct admission in Nadwa, Lucknow for 3/5/7 years respectively depending on their education.

f) After they graduated from Nadwa, they will get admission directly in AMU, JMI and HU (Hamdard University) in Master programs.

g) Necessary funding towards the expenditure likely to be incurred in providing books, tution fees and teachers salary will be borne by the Company without making any burden to the Madrasa.

2) Mosque (Masajid) Reformation:

a) Every one of us knows the condition of these Mosques in Manipur. The Imams and Moujins are not getting the emolument they deserve to get due to lack of coordination among the families living under the coverage of the Mosque (Mohalla).

b) The Muslim brothers in the mohalla do not contribute the yearly subscription of very small amount (which may be perhaps not even a cost of one shirt) to the Masajid committee who runs the administration.

c) The imams besides leading the Namaz do not provide any other opportunity to earn his livelihood. We need to provide them sustainable job so that he can give proper education to his children and have a good image unlike many who does not even have a good cloths and runs all day with a cycle to collect money. The Imams need to live life happier than us. Then they can only show us the correct way of living. Due to their financial conditions, they are forced to do something which are not suited and people claimed that they should not do like this being an Imam.

d) The Imams should be recruited under a board or committee and given the salary not less than 5000/-. They should also be give other source of income such as compulsory sending every child of the households to him to learn Quran reading with fixed fees (to be fixed by the families). At least he should get 100/- per child so that he gets another 5/6 thousands in a month.

e) The criteria of imam selection will be his vast knowledge on modern world and in depth knowledge of Quran and Hadith, his vocal, Qiraat. Besides, we may look some X factor too. In the same way, the Moujin should also be recruited with his Vocal, health and be remunerated not less than 3000/-.

f) He(Imam) should be listened by all families. He should have regular interaction session with the youths and try to enlighten the youths about Islam and its application. The question and answer session should be best where they can ask any kind of question right from sex to anything else.

g) The mosque should have a reading room where all kinds of books on Islam and stories of prophets, scientific approach to the Quran should be made available and open 24 hours to read to the public.
h) There will be quarter for Imam as he may be from any part of Manipur/Outside though Moujin will remain local. When the project is implemented in more than one Mosque, their post will be made transferrable in 5 years tenure.

3) Poverty Alleviation:

a) The percentage of education or rather good education is very minimum in Muslim society. If the Company can contribute little help to the society, it will make a big revolution in 10/20 years.
b) We need to find out no. of villages or Khun in a town and its child population under the age of 5. Depending on the fund (generation of fund will be in the next topic), we may select the 1/2/3 or whatever poorest family from each KHUN (village) and get them admission in the nearby school. The trust will assist admission fees, uniforms, tuition fees( if applicable) till he completes XII class.

c) Every year there will be identification of poor family without any notification so that favourism is avoided. We should select only one child per family. If no family left, another child may be selected from the same family.

d) When these students advance to the higher classes, the expenditure too will be increased. So, the family of the children should be provided some works with the assistant Govt. scheme. One of the jobs which I foresee with good return and needs no training and education for the villagers is dairy farm, fish farming and poultry. Villages have enough places to set up this kind of farming except fishing (we need some philanthropist to give land and get some rental in return as purchase of land may not be perhaps possible).

e) Setting up the firms just not completes the task. We need to sing some MOU with hotels, college/school hostels, restaurants and market contractor (if available) to sell these products. The requirements of the hotel and the farmer are to be discussed and signed the MOU.

f) The fishery department, poultry and MOBC may be for sure having scheme for funding such projects.

g) This way, we will provide these families to earn income and support his family for a longer period and may be after some years they may not require any funding from the TRUST.

Fund Mobilization/Generation:

This is one of the most important activities for the organization. All our aims and objective can be achieved only on getting enough funds. How do we generate fundfor the TRUST. Will the people of Manipur and the member accept the proposal ortaken in perspective. Will it be dumped just like any other fraud organization? What can be the best possible way to approach the masses of the Manipur and Manipuris outside Manipur and India?
Well questions are many but answer is very limited. The only option left is trust. To make successful project, we need to prove to the people of Manipur without any political influence that we are doing something for the people of Manipur. We will need many volunteers to do this job. They cannot be paid at the beginning but if projects keep going as per plan, we will surely employ for the company. We need some honorary jobs besides their daily routine to execute the activities outlined above.

Followings are the way of mobilizing funds:

1) Membership fee and its monthly subscription: As we are setting up non-profitable organization, every member has nothing to get from this organization but to contribute from his kitty. We may decide the membership fees with due consultation. My proposals are as follows:-

Govt.Servant with pay above 50,000/- P.M. -Rs. 5,000/-
Govt.Servant with pay above 30,000/- but less than 50,000/- - Rs. 3,000/-
Govt.Servant with pay above 15,000/- but less than 30,000/- - Rs. 1,000/-
Govt.Servant with pay above 10,000/- but less than 15,000/- - Rs. 300/-
Other Govt. Servant -Rs. 100/-
Research Scholar in receipt of Fellowship -Rs. 500/-
Students -Rs. 100/-
Professionals abroad (minimum but can contribute more) - 100$

If the number of members is taken as 300 (the existing number) the one time membership fees may raise around 50 thousand to 1 lakh (roughly) or more than that. All these members will give monthly subscription not less than Rs. 100/- (no limit of maximum contribution). In the first year, we may perhaps generate 3.6 lakh @ Rs. 100/- only. But I will contribute not less than 200/-. So there may be many such persons who wish and can contribute more then we expect. Approximately we can take around 5 lakhs per annum.

2) All Govt. Employees in State and Central Govt. not in the Member:

We may request to all such brothers and sisters to contribute @ Rs. 10/- per month to the COMPANY for which receipt will be granted. Rs.10/- is nothing in these days. I do not think that they won’t agree unless they treat the COMPANY as fraud. Here convincing them comes an issue. But we may overcome with our commitment. There may be around 20,000 to 30,000 govt. servant right from Gr-D to Top level officers. So another 2 lakh can be generated per month.

3) Contribution from every Muslim Household:
The total population of Muslim may be around 2 to 3 lakh and no. of household may be around 50 thousand. Every family needs something or other to run their family in a day. In average they may be spending Rs. 10/- per day in grocery items. We may request to all Muslim shops which sales anything from grocery to apparels, tea hotels etc. to take Rs 1/- extra for a buy of more than Rs. 10/- and accounted it on daily basis. (The consumer needs to be informed by publicity and meetings and bring to consensus to pay extra Re. 1/-). If 50% of the household contribute Re 1/- per day, it can generate another 7.5 lakhs per day (Re 1 x 25000 household *30 days=7,50,000).

4) Funding from Private companies in the State:
Many private companies in Manipur especially in telecom sector have established. We may organize Marathon run for a cause and ask for the sponsorship from this companies. We will spend in such a way that 20% of the total expected earnings are spent. The company will provide the award, logistic; advertisement (depends on what they agree). This kind of cause activity may be done once a year choosing different place and time every year and generate another 50-1 lakh.

5) Zakat Collection:

There are so many Muslim philanthropists in India who are ready to give their Zakat to the good institute. Whether the COMPANY can collect the zakat money or not may be discussed with Muslim intellectuals and if agreed, it should be. We may raise another 2- 3 laks per annum.

If we sum up all the above, expected total amount would as follows:-
a) One time membership fees = Rs. 1,00,000.00
b) Monthly subscription fees(annually) = Rs. 3,60,000.00
c) State Govt. employee =Rs. 2,00,000.00
d) Contribution from Household =Rs. 7,50,000.00
e) Funding from Pvt. Companies = Rs.50,000.00
f) Zakat Collection =Rs. 2,00,000.00
Total =Rs. 16,60,000.00 (Sixteen lakh sixty thousand)

While doing the above activities we will require maximum manpower from each and every village. Since most of us are not in Manipur, it will be very difficult to involve physically thereof. So, it may be necessary to tie up with local NGOs or Clubs to publicize the cause and bring the people into consensus. Volunteers will be paid the TA and DA for the work or skilled labour fees of Manipur. We, the members need to spare at least 15 days in a year and go in different times in a group of 4/5 members to Manipur and start the drive with full swing with the assistance of the Local NGOs and Clubs authority. The required expenditure can be met from the membership fees and monthly subscription.

While bringing the people of Manipur into consensus, we may start a project out of three activities mentioned at the beginning which will make an impression of the COMPANY to the people and will make easy to introduce other activities later on. The Mosque Reformation may perhaps make most impact and will give us nice platform to introduce the COMPANY. The Imams and local will truly recognize our activity and may get invitations from other village to implement the same. If we cover one mosque in a village in coming 2/3 years it won’t be of much difficult for us to convince the people of the other project which we have.

Once the mosque transformation is completed for one mosque per village in all villages, we may take up the next project setting up income generation projects such as Poultry, fishery, dairy under the scheme of MOBC or different ministries. By this time, we may start the other modes of fund raising programs.

There may be many shortcomings in the draft and may not be in order as I have no idea as to how NGO works. It is my utmost request to all members of the forum to copy the document in Word and make remarks of the points which he thinks necessary to modify parawise at the end of document and send back to me at my address : nasir.po.sh@gmail.com for further compilation as 2nd draft.
