AMANA FOUNDATION

(A society registered under India Society Act)

AIM: TO GENERATE A MODERATE FUND TO GIVE EMPLOYMENT TO THE NEEDY SECTION OF THE SOCIETY AND INCULCATE THE VALUE OF ISLAM.

MEMBERS: A membership fees of Rs. 2000.00 will be required from each member.

SUBSCRIPTION: Every member for next 10 years will contribute Rs. 1000/- every month till the total fund of the society raised to 25,00,000/-. The subscription may increase after some years if the board member of the society feels.

The society will have president, secretaries and staffs if necessary to run smoothly. There will be one regular board meeting once in a year unless there is any other compulsory emergency meeting.

ACTIVITIES:

1)      Employment Generation: Funds, though can be raised with the subscription from members, it will remain the only money we subscribed. In order to get some automatic raise in the fund we need to take up some project where we can do funding and earn percentage of profit not the interest. This will not only give jobs to the unemployed youth or our elders but also generate our income in HALAL way. The following are the scheme which we may take up depending on the atmosphere.

a)      Poultry Farming: Every household are now doing poultry farming for their needs but cannot do export to the hotels. We can foresee a big opportunity in this sector. People do not consume much of it due to lack of availability. If one is selling at 1 kg, ½ kg, ¼ kg, whoever need for small quantity can purchase for one day meal. This way he won’t need to spend Rs. 200/- to have a cup of chicken. He can have daily chicken under his affordable expenditure. We need to tie up with big hotels, restaurants in the city, towns to supply the chicken besides selling live chickens to households. This will not only give us a meager income but also give employment to at least 5/6 peoples in the locality. We can invest 25% of the total assets to this project. If we have 20 members at least, we can generate 5,00,000/- at the first 1 year. So, 2 lakhs can be invested in setting up infrastructure for poultry, purchasing poultry chicks and its feeds for 4/5 months. We can harvest twice in a year. So, the calculation may be as follows

i)                    Infrastructure-                  Rs. 1,00,000.00

ii)                   Chicks (500 nos.)              Rs.    20,000.00

iii)                 Feeds                                    Rs.    50,000.00

iv)                 Electric charge                   Rs.      2,000.00

v)                  Salary (2 people)              Rs.    10,000.00

vi)                 Transportation                  Rs.       5,000.00

Total                                      Rs. 1,87,000.00

(One lac eighty seven thousand) our allocation is 2 lacs still 13,000/- left which may be used in Misc items which may arise later.

Selling price:

If we take the current price i.e. Rs. 140 per Kg.

500 nos x 4 kgs x 140/- = Rs. 2,80,000.00. We further need to spend some amount in transportation so there will be less profit in the first harvest as we spent a handsome amount in infrastructure. But in second harvest, we need to invest only 1 lacs only which will earn 2.8 lacs or more. We may also think of epidemics such as bird flu which may cause death of chickens. So another 80,000/- may be deduct from the estimated profit. Still we make a profit of 1 lacs which is not bad. This will go the society’s fund.

Every year there will be two season to sell the grown up poultry and have a chance to generate at least 1.5 to 2 lacs revenue out of 2 lacs investment.

b)      Women employment: The local uneducated mother and sisters are earning money in very unconventional methods such as digging sand from the river belly throught out the day escaping the fard (namaz) and also a very hard work. There may be mother and sisters among the women in the locality who wants to earn money but not feeling good to take up this job as they need to expose whole day in the river. We may set up another working center after completing the first task. They will be provided the weaving machines, threads, embroidery machines or any other equipment which are required for them to run the workshop. We may perhaps seek funding from govt. scheme if permissible to take such help by a society. We will send the sisters to training programs as and when any such programs are conducted in the state. The product of the industry will be traditional phanek, salwar of various designs, dupattas embroidered etc. we need to have a tie up in and out of Manipur to export the products. The employee of the industry will be paid fixed monthly salary of 500/- plus incentives for every finished products based on their performance. To go into an elaborate expenditure of the industry will be premature since I have no idea of the cost of the machineries and consumables etc. if we cannot set up a big house for the purpose, we may allow the workers to do at their home and collect the finished product in a place from where tagging and exporting of items can be done.

c)       Dairy Farm: Dairy farm is seen as very promising sector in rural areas like ours. There is no lack of field even if we need to take them outside the barn. There are variety of cows which gives more milk. We may purchase the JARSEE or other hybrid cow. This will give at least 3 men employment. 1 man will be for milking, 1 for feeding and 1 for exporting the milk to the hotels and household. The expenditure may be as follows:-

i)                    Cost of cow                (3 cows)@ Rs. 40,000/-                  = Rs. 1,20,000.00

ii)                   Salary of the employee 2000/- each                                = Rs.       6,000.00

iii)                 Fodder (it won’t cost much as dry fodder in the form of rice husk and straw are available in plenty. Besides we need to purchase some oil cake such mustard oil cake during the season and store it. Green fodder can get free of cost for three cows throughout the year from here or there. We may spend around 10000/- for fodder (all kinds of fodder) in a year                        = Rs.      10,000.00

Total                                                                              = Rs. 1,36,000.00

(One lac thirty six thousand only)

                                Harvesting:

i)               Milking 15 ltrs/per day per cow @Rs. 30/- per liter 45 ltrs x 30  = Rs. 1,350.00 per day

ii)             Total income on milk  1350 x 30 days   = Rs. 40,500.00

We will impart necessary training to the farmers in the State Animal Husbandry Department for better service. If the product of the milk comes as we plan, we may generate around 2.5 in a year while the expenditure made is around 1.5 lacs in first year and 10-20 thousand in subsequent years. Here too, we will make a profit of Rs. 2 lacs which will go to the society’s fund. In the next one or two year, we may expand the farm to around 10 cows as we will be able to handle more cows from the experience we had.

d)      Farming paddy fields: Another very conventional and easy way of providing employment and generating fund is paddy field farming. We may acquire land on leased from anyone and trusted to someone who wants to farm but does not have land. He will farm the land as if it is his property and will ask in return only 8 bags. As such there will be no expenditure in this project. We may extend help in extreme necessity for which we may reserve Rs. 4000/- for 4 sangam. The annual return would be around Rs. 6000 x 4 = Rs. 24,000.00 while our main investment of 2 lacs remains intact. The straws will be another fodder source for dairy farm.

2)      Profit sharing: The purpose of the society is to develop our locality with the aim to provide them sustainable job so that they can prosper. When the total assets/liquidity of the society reaches to above 25 lacs, we may start distributing some share of the profits. We may distribute 20% of the profits to the members, 30% to the charity (such as scholarships to the under poverty students, masajid, madrassa and financial assistant to the poorest household of the locality) and 50% to the society fund till we can raise fund up to 1 cr.

3)      Charity: In charity we need to conduct scholarship programs for bright students to encourage their studies providing basic money for enrollment of student of under poverty household of the whole year. The priority has to be seen when it comes. We may also assist financial helps to the Masajid renovation, cleanliness of the graveyard etc. The foundation will take active part in awareness programs through modern way about the beauty and importance of Islam and practices we need to adopt in daily life. The foundation will organize workshop cum seminar inviting Islamic scholars and muftis to put perspectives of Islam in an interesting way so that no body feels that they are being preached. Preaching is not something which is easily digested as we all are matured and want to neglect such things. They have the idea that if they listen and agreed to what are being preached, they may be compelled to follow which they do not feel doing.

4)      Fund for Hajj: We will allow 2-3 people to perform Hajj from our fund every year or if possible we all will go together.

5)      Natural Calamity/Sudden loss: We will keep 10% of the total fund to help out the person affected by Natural calamity, emergency aid and death cases depending on the merit of cases.

VISION 2020

VISION 2020

Introduction:
The development of any nation depends on its educational system and it is proved that education is the key to human progress and social change. Education is a powerful tool for empowerment of any individual. It helps in developing confidence in individual and community about their own capacities, inherent strengths to shape their lives and thus enhance the inner strength, intellectual, political, social and economic against oppression, exclusion and discrimination.

Our mission is to serve the poor and deprived sections of Muslim community by providing them the basic amenities like education and economic empowerment and equip individuals to become an equal partner in the progress of the state/nation and by helping the sufferers of deprivation to move towards a community free from hunger, ignorance, deprivation and exploitation. We believe that Islam is the ultimate source of guidance for social development. We aim at reaching the grassroots with distinct preference for the depressed and the disadvantaged sections enabling them to attain all that a common citizen cherishes.

Hands-in-hand we go to serve the deserving. Through various community service projects and with the support of our caring and generous donors, MMOF will be engaging in helping people with little or no resources. With the high spirit and dedication of its members, MMOF strives to alleviate human sufferings and also to help them achieve real improvement in the quality of their lives.

MMOF at first may give priorities in two sectors besides time to time projects:-

1. Educational empowerment

2. Economic empowerment.

Educational Empowerment: Educational empowerment is the need of the hour. The simplest example of its necessity is that we are discussing about the upliftment of our brothers and sisters. Had not we studied, we would not have thought of it. Development is a central imperative part in today’s globalized world. But achieving sustainable all-round development for society requires certain fundamental pillars in place. Education is one such pillars without which any future growth is inconceivable. More so, in today’s information based society, where education is the key to a whole world of opportunities. Not only that, a whole host of issues in fields of healthcare, economic opportunity, women empowerment and community building can be traced to a lack of proper education.

Every child or almost 90% children go to school even in village or town in Manipur today. There is small or big schools in most of the villages in Manipur. But what is lacking is the quality of education. The passed out percentage in the villages is though increasing, still a situation of concern. Instead of counting successful, it is better to count number of failure students and address the issue. Girl student are higher in number than the boy in term of fail. There are many reasons behind this picture. Reason 1) Parents do not give much importance to the girl if there are 2-3 boys in family and if the family is in middle class. 2) The girls’ time are used in some household activities.  3) Dismal school infrastructure 4) Less experience teaching staffs. 6) Unable to get proper coaching due to less income.

Vision 2020 may stress on primary and secondary level to improve education, because primary and secondary level prepares ground for higher education which needs worthy and deserving aspirants.

The Vision 2020 may take up following projects in the field of Education Empowerment:

· Career Guidance Cell in Imphal and Silchar

· Alumni Formation

· Award for academic excellence

 [First 5 yrs Plan]

Career Guidance Cell: As we do not have full time office and working staff, it may be difficult to man one employee in the guidance centre. But we may utilise small room of anyone’s home as office and open the centre for 3 hrs a week. Our members in Manipur will manage for first some years till we are able to establish a fully functional cell. We may expand the functionality of the cell in later years depending upon our scope. We are also making a career guidance booklet under leadership of Umar Khan, Admin. Later on, this cell will also provide important admission form of different colleges/universities at the same rate what is available at the venue. It may also be made as job enquiry centre. Brothers working in the different department and colleges will share the job information besides those in the employment news and made available to young job seekers. This cell can be set up at no cost. This place may also be converted into a Library where books available with us may be kept for study of poor students. The book will be leased to one student for 2/3 days if the same is not in demand or not in exam time. Many other activities may be taken up later as and when any new idea is born.

Alumni Formation: We may back the initiative of any Alumni assn. formation. Alumni will works at its own but the human resource will be mutually used. What alumni should do must not be decided by MMOF and vice versa.

Award for academic excellence: In continuation to our inaugural event, we may give awards to academic excellence students of Class X, XII, BE, MBBS and other specialised subject. Scholarship in itself is a catalyst for those students who are unable to access the available resources. Purpose of educational projects in Vision 2020 is to ignite and propel the students' self potential. The award distribution would be a great step in a marathon. The Award for Academic Excellence is meant to encourage the students to continue performing better in future. It is to motivate the minority students for performing excellently in their academic studies.

2nd 5 year plan.

Economic Empowerment:

a)   Micro finance: Economical development of under privileged and weaker people should be given the top priority to support one’s family. One such option is Micro financing. There are many brothers who want to start some business but could not do so for want to initial investment. Keeping the needs in mind, we can extend hand to these underprivileged sections. Micro Finance is one such option. Since we are in Islam, we can change the modal of common Micro finance scheme. We will finance interest free amount ranging from 1000 to 5000 depending upon the work they are interesting. The capital amount will be recovered/reimbursed to us in very easy instalments without any interest on daily or monthly basis depending upon nature of business. If the business earn on daily basis, we will recover on daily basis otherwise on monthly basis. As such, we can set up many small business houses/firms.

MMOF Logo

The group is now renamed as Manipuri Muslim Online Forum. Because the term Muslim  in the name of a religion followers, which is plural in itself, where all Mazhabs in Islam are brought under a single umbrella. However the term Muslims perhaps will have to go with an indicator like sunni Muslims, shia Mu...slims etc, as it tends to highlight the different mazhabs in Islam. And Muslims' or Muslim's which is with an apostrophe is possessive. The tag line "Think Humanity" gives an expression of an appeal to all human to think humanity.
